  Harvard is so s-m-r-t
It probably makes me a bad person, but I think this headline is pretty damn funny:

"Students Slip, Slide on Slick Sidewalks"

  distractions
V-L is having a full-blown identity crisis that I'll have to deal with at some point, but right now I'm too busy toasting Drew Faust to care! Wooooooo!

  revolution!
So everyone else is taking:

* The advanced stats seminar. Ha! Fuck that noise!
* The advanced game theory seminar. Ha! Ha! Ha!
* The seminar on international relations which apparently is graded primarily according to a 20 minute oral exam. Uh-huh.

I am taking:

* An advanced seminar in Russian politics post-1991.
* A history class on collective memory.
* An anthropology class on cultural "construction and contestation" of public space and the natural environment.
* And...a class about the various dimensions and uses of power in the U.S.

I'm also coordinating a readings course on environmental policy for an undergrad, working with one of the discipline's truly great philosophers on a super awesome and (for now) Top Secret project, and presenting at two conferences between now and April. Things are good, and busy, but when you suddenly don't have 40-60 hour-long problem sets to do every week, it's amazing how accomodating a theoretically busy schedule can suddenly appear.

Any lingering doubts I had about the advanced stats seminar--which briefly seemed sort of like a good idea when I was doing the final for the "basic" seminar and thought I actually might finally understand some things--have been firmly put to rest by the knowledge that every single class is videotaped. Both lectures and sections, where students should really feel somewhat safe and secure asking stupid questions about things they don't understand. This staggering insult to pedagogy is evidently an Okay Thing because this class--and its professor--are just so goddamn bloody hegemonic that it would be fundamentally unfair not to offer such wisdom to the greater academic community. So it's all up on the web for anyone to see. Mofo.

The bastards don't have any power over me anymore. I passed their required class. I don't have to live in fear anymore! Revolution!
